There's a quip that: “Time stops everything from happening at once.” But what if it doesn't? We are inundated with information about so many events and issues that it can be hard to make sense of what's going on. Among those prominent today are COVID, inflation, the extent and nature of jobs, political and social changes, international tensions, and technological opportunities. In these times there can never be enough insightful information and analysis.
One can understand what's going on and what it means with an overview which allows you to see how things add up and interact. Another way is to selectively dive into the depths of developments to see what shapes the broader changes. The two approaches together can heighten understanding of developments and challenges and help to evaluate opportunities to respond.
The blogs presented here include both broad and detailed analysis, and discussion of past and present developments along with future prospects. The selection of topics is based on potential reader interest and the knowledge of the author. Your comments and thoughts on topics are invited
In “Fidler on the Roof,” Tevye feigns a dream to get his wife to accept a change in son-in-law. Goldie tells Tevye: “Tell me what you dreamt and I’ll tell you what it means.” All too often it seems like analysts are playing Goldie. If you told them something else they would have an explanation for that too. You may really want to know in advance which outcomes are expected and why. Then you can think more meaningfully about what they entail. Providing these perspectives is one of the objectives of Column 1.
